  • DIED: March 16, 2016
  • LOCATION: Bald Knob, Arkansas

Mary Juanita Reed died on March 16, 2016 at 101 years old. She was born on June 3, 1914 to Anna and Kaleb Cochran of Providence outside Bald Knob, Arkansas. She and her siblings attended the one-room school at Big Four. At age 18, she met the love of her life, Buford Reed, and was married on June 9, 1933. She and her husband were cotton and strawberry farmers and worked hard growing and selling produce. They built a home on the Reed farm where she remained until age 94. She and Buford were married until his death on December 26, 1966. They raised three children, teaching each one to work hard, love immensely and keep the Lord first in all that you do.

After her husband's death, Mrs. Reed worked for General Industries in Bald Knob for fifteen years. Mrs. Reed's home served as the place for Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas Eve gatherings for her immediate family and Billy Joe when he came to town for Cochran family reunions. She will be remembered for her countless hours of baking cookies, cakes and pies for all occasions, including birthdays of friends, Sunday night meals at church, and, of course, for her grandchildren. She truly enjoyed baking and giving through the gift of hospitality as she felt it showed her love for her guests.

At age 94, she was welcomed by the Woodruff County Nursing Home in McCrory, where the nurses and staff took wonderful care of her. Mrs. Reed was an active member of the Rocky Point Baptist Church her entire adult life. The church continued to support her even after she moved to McCrory, sending her cards weekly until her death.

Mrs. Reed is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Jimmy Cochran; sister, Claudeta "Mutt" Stanley; infant grandson, Stanley Joe Reed; grandson, Al Reed; and precious and most beloved daughter, Ann Peacock. She is survived by her brother, Billy Joe Cochran of El Paso, Texas; and son, Carol Gene Reed of Beebe and his wife, Loretta; and son, Glen Edward Reed and his wife, Peggy of Bald Knob; and son-in-law Joe N. Peacock, formerly of McCrory and now of Little Rock.

Mrs. Reed is survived by five grandchildren, Marvella Brown and her husband Cliff of Morrilton; Dale Reed and his wife Lyndee of Searcy, Arkansas; Rita Reed Harris, and her husband, Steve, of Forrest City; Nelson Peacock and his wife, Susan, of Orinda, California; and Denver Peacock, and his wife, Melissa, of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Reed also is survived by former granddaughter-in-law Tina Reed of North Little Rock.

Her surviving great grandchildren include Michelle Reed, Cassie Reed, Tara Reed, Amie Eoff, Sarah Eoff, Hannah Reed, Dustie Reed, Garrett Reed, Reed Harris, Lilly Ann Peacock, Presley Peacock, Emma Peacock and Hudson Peacock. Mrs. Reed is also survived by her nephew, Don Stanley; his wife, Sue; their son, Scott, and wife Kelly; their children, Morgan, Sophia and Andrew; along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Rocky Point Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
