Billy Walker Smith, age 75 of Searcy, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Searcy. He was born May 12, 1940 at Pearson, Arkansas to Merrell Menton Smith and Bessie Mae Moore Smith. Billy was a Golf Course Superintendent for 38 years. He was a member of the Southern Turf grass Association from 1967 until present. He helped organize the Arkansas Golf Course Superintendent's Association where he served as President and in other roles for 15 years. He started the Arkansas Sportsmanship Association and served as President for 4 years. He was in the Arkansas National Guard for 11 years where he served as Sergeant First Class in communications. Billy was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and chasing grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Ruby P. Smith of Searcy; one son, Kendall W. Smith and wife Nancy of Searcy; two daughters, Lesa Ann Wyatt and husband Jackie of Searcy, Lori Annette Mowrer and husband Michael of Searcy; two sisters, Erma Dean Bowrer of Fairfield Bay, Gerline Scruggs of Hopewell; seven grandchildren, Andrea Nicole Wyatt Ross and husband Levi of North Little Rock, Shana Annette Mowrer Stovall and husband Brad of Searcy, Mary Elizabeth Price Banks and husband Chris of Newark, Heath Ray Wyatt of North Little Rock, Autumn Michelle Mowrer Swain and husband Corbry of Searcy, Jacob Walker Mowrer and wife Lindsey of Huntsville, Megan Lanette Mowrer Stokes and husband Will of Searcy; and four great-grandchildren, Presley Arden Stovall of Searcy, Gabriel Beckett Stovall of Searcy, Rhett Elliot Banks of Newark, and Ronan Cade Swain of Searcy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merrell and Bessie Smith; and one brother, Merrell Menton "Bud" Smith, II. Visitation is Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services are Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Powell Funeral Home with interment to follow at Gum Springs Cemetery. Arrangements by Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.

I'm so sorry for this great loss!! Billy was such a loving and kind man and will be missed by so many! I'm sorry that I can't be there!! Granny, I've been thinking of you constantly and wish I could give you a big hug! I'll be praying for you all as you say your goodbyes. God bless you!

Billy was the best. He let us play, I mean pick up golf balls and drive carts. He brought me gas several times, because my gas gauge didn't work on my car! He was a lot o fun. I'm glad that I knew him. May God bless and comfort his family.
