Tribute & Message From The Family

For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born…..Odell Pollard was born April 29, 1927 in Union Hill, Arkansas to Joseph and Beulah Pollard as the 6th of 8 children. And a time to die…..and passed from this life March 12, 2015 in Searcy, Arkansas.
A time to plant….he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Imogene Huett Pollard, his children, Laura Roussel (Scott), Paula Gray (Bill), and Mark Pollard (Dana), his step children, Jamie Huett (Pam), Tommy Huett (Becky), and Mary Jane Norman (Tommy), and 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother, Dr. Arlee Pollard, and a sister-in-law, Helen Pollard. He is predeceased by his parents, his siblings and his first wife, Sammie Pollard.
A time to cast stones, and a time to gather stones together……Odell graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1950 and operated a law practice in Searcy for the next 55 years.
He has made everything beautiful in his time: he has also set eternity in the hearts of men…..much of Odell's life's work was in the Arkansas political system serving as the Chairman of the Republican Party from 1966-1970 and as the National Committeeman from 1973-1976. In the words of Ed Bethune "Without his leadership in the 1960's, our state might still be in the wilderness. Against all odds, he stood firm for Governor Rockefeller and the need to develop a two-party system. Much of what has been accomplished in our state can be attributed to the work of Odell Pollard".
A time to weep, and a time to laugh: a time to mourn, and a time to dance….Odell, as we mourn your passing and weep in our quiet times, we laugh and dance at the security of your eternity. Your loving family joyfully commits you to your loving God.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 14th, from 5pm-7pm at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy. Funeral services will be March 15th at 2pm at Searcy First United Methodist Church. Burial at White County Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital or the Methodist Children's Home.

I have many fond memories of being an employee of Odell Pollard. He is one of the finest men I have ever known.

For as long as I can remember, Odell Pollard had been a bright light in my life. He always made me feel extra special, but I suspect he made everyone feel that way. I will miss his great smile, his laughter, his "sparkling personality" and his hugs. I know these last months must have dampened his smile, but not his spirit. And I'm sure he is smiling again . . . all the way home.

Odell gave me a start when I was a young law student. The summer I graduated he let me study for the bar exam in his office. He gave me a job doing research. He took me fishing.

Down thru the years we met in court; sometimes together, sometimes opposed. What impressed me most was he was always prepared - meticulous about it.

I felt free to drop by his office, anytime, just to visit and enjoy a bit of comraderie.

It would take a book to mention all the things Odell did for our community and state.

My deepest sympathy to his family for their loss.

Please know we are thinking of you and praying for you as you mourn over the passing of Odell. He was a great man. I am forever grateful how he went out of his way to help Aunt Doris after the passing of Uncle John. He was a man of principle and conviction. One whom I always had the greatest respect and admiration. He will definitely be missed, but we will see him again in heaven. Love to you and yours. May God comfort you through the love of your family and friends.

My beloved Uncle Odell has always been a man that I admired for his intelligence, his gentle wit, and his love of friends and family. He definitely made the world a better place. Heaven is the richer for his taking leave of this earth.
